They were punctual and did a very professional job. Anything they dug up, they filled. They left the work area cleaner than they found it. I ended up getting 4 quotes and they had the best price. Our 18-year-old hot water system failed unexpectedly just before we went overseas. Even though it was late at night, Sam responded straight away, talked me through what to check, and arranged to come out the very next morning.

He quickly diagnosed the issue, clearly explained why the old unit wasn't worth repairing, and recommended a Thermann continuous flow system. The internal mechanism does most of the work. Traditional tap sets seal with a washer against a seat, and both are replaceable, which is why a well made traditional tap can be serviced for decades. Mixers use a cartridge, and the important question is whether that cartridge is a standard part that remains available. A mixer with a proprietary cartridge that is discontinued becomes unrepairable, and the whole fitting has to be replaced for a part that would otherwise cost very little.

The WELS rating tells you water consumption and allows comparison between products. A lower flow tap is not necessarily worse to use, because aerators can maintain the feel of the flow while using less water.

Watermark certification indicates the product is approved for use in Australian plumbing systems. Fittings bought from overseas suppliers sometimes are not, and installing an uncertified fitting can create problems both with the installation and with any later claim.

The practical advice is to ask about cartridge availability before buying a mixer, and to check for Watermark certification on anything sourced unusually cheaply.

Does this work need a licensed plumber?

Is a low flow tap going to feel weak?
