The right drainage depends on where the water comes from and where it can go. These are the four jobs that sort out most Sydney properties. Pick the one that sounds like yours.
Water soaks into the soil and stays there: a boggy lawn, a damp retaining wall or a patio that is wet all year. The ground holds more water than it can shed.
We dig a trench with a fall, lay a slotted pipe in gravel wrapped in fabric, and run it to a legal discharge point, so the water collects in the pipe instead of the soil.
We tell you where the water ends up and why. A French drain that empties nowhere only moves the problem across the yard.
Rain runs towards the house instead of away from it, and pools on paths or the slab. The cause is the fall of the ground, not the pipes.
We re-grade the problem area, or fit a surface channel and grate where grading alone is not enough, so water leaves the slab and keeps going.
A fall of about one in a hundred is the usual minimum for a pipe. We check it with a level before we backfill, so the drain does not hold water when it is finished.
The existing drain is undersized for the roof, or there is no drain at all at the low point of the yard. Every storm then overloads one small pit.
We size the pit and the pipe to the roof area they serve, connect the downpipes, and run the line to the street or council system.
Where an old line is collapsed or crushed, we replace the damaged section and join it so the whole run flows freely. We camera the finished line.
