Plumbing that works with Como's slope, not against it
The drop from the ridge to the riverfront does a lot of quiet damage in Como. Homes near the water often run higher mains pressure than their fittings were designed for, which shortens the life of taps, hoses and hot water valves. Up the hill, the problem reverses: stormwater from higher streets arrives fast and looks for the easiest path, which is sometimes through a backyard. Pressure and burst prevention: Persistent dripping taps, banging pipes and split flexible hoses low on the hill usually point to excess pressure. We test it, fit or replace pressure limiting valves, and renew tired taps and fittings before a small fault turns into a burst pipe inside a wall. Weatherboard cottage pipework: Como's older timber homes are straightforward to work on when you know them: subfloor access is usually good, so repipes and repairs can often be done with little or no wall damage. We replace corroded galvanised runs, sort persistent leaks and bring laundry and bathroom plumbing up to current standards without losing the character of the house. Stormwater and drainage: Steep driveways and terraced gardens need drainage that can cope when rain sheets down the hill. We clear silted pits, add channel drains where the old setup falls short, and our roof plumbers keep gutters and downpipes moving water to the street instead of into the subfloor. Blocked drains and sewers: Established gardens along the river send roots into ageing earthenware lines. Our drain crew clears them with high-pressure jetting, confirms the cause with a CCTV camera, and repairs cracked sections using no-dig relining, which matters on blocks where every metre of garden is on a retaining wall. Hot water and gas: We repair and replace hot water systems, install gas hot water and handle gas fitting for cooktops and heaters. A 24/7 emergency plumber covers Como every day of the year.

PROUDLY SERVING COMO & SURROUNDING SUBURBS
Como questions we answer a lot
Common queries from Como homeowners, most of them about the hill, the river or an older cottage.
Why do my taps and hoses keep failing near the bottom of the hill?
Mains pressure rises as the street drops, and homes close to the river can sit well above the pressure that modern tapware and flexible hoses are rated for. The symptoms are drips that return soon after a washer change, banging pipes and hoses that split young. A pressure test takes minutes; if the reading is high, a pressure limiting valve at the meter protects everything downstream.
Can you replace the old pipes in a weatherboard cottage without wrecking the walls?
Usually, yes, and timber homes are the easiest kind to repipe. Most of Como’s weatherboard cottages have workable subfloor and roof cavity access, so new water lines can be run without opening wall linings. Where a section must be exposed, we cut one neat access point and tell you before we do it. Staged repipes are also an option if you want to spread the cost.
My driveway turns into a creek in heavy rain. What can be done?
Steep concrete driveways collect everything the street and the uphill neighbours send down. The usual fix is a grated channel drain across the driveway connected to a properly sized discharge line, sometimes with an extra pit where water gathers. We start by checking the existing stormwater for silt and root blockages, because a surprising number of Como’s flooding driveways are fixed by clearing what is already there.
Do fittings wear out faster this close to the river?
Outdoor fittings do. Salt air along the Georges River is gentler than open-coast exposure, but garden taps, valves and exposed copper still corrode faster than they would inland. Brass and stainless fittings last noticeably longer, and a quick check of outdoor plumbing every couple of years catches seized valves while they are still small jobs to sort. Indoor plumbing is largely unaffected.
What does a call-out actually cost?
You get a fixed price before any work starts, based on what we find when we inspect. Accept it and that is what you pay, regardless of how long the job runs. Decline it and you have lost nothing but a conversation. For after-hours emergencies we explain the rates on the phone first, so the decision is made with the numbers in front of you.
