Our house is below street level. What happens if the sewer pump fails?
Waste has nowhere to go, so it backs up toward the lowest fixtures in the house, which makes a failed pump a genuine emergency. Call us straight away and run as little water as possible in the meantime. Longer term, pumps should be serviced on a schedule and ideally fitted with a high-level alarm so you hear about a problem before the bathroom floor does.
Rainwater sheets down our driveway and pools at the garage. What actually fixes that?
A grated channel drain across the driveway, cut in at the right point and connected to a properly sized discharge line, catches the flow before it reaches the building. The mistake we see on steep blocks is a channel connected to an old pipe that cannot carry the volume, so the water jumps the grate in heavy rain. We size the whole path, not just the grate.
Does bay-side exposure really shorten a hot water system's life?
