Small blocks, old pipes, careful plumbing
When houses share walls and boundaries sit a metre from the brickwork, plumbing has to be planned, not improvised. Most of our Naremburn work falls into four buckets: Renovations in cottages and semis: Adding a second bathroom or opening up a kitchen in a Naremburn cottage means threading new drainage and water lines through a structure that predates all of it. We handle the rough-in and fit-off, coordinate with your builder, and flag which sections of original pipework should be replaced while floors are up. In semis we plan around the party wall and the neighbour's services, which is exactly where inexperienced plumbing goes wrong. Drains beside the gully: Streets around Flat Rock Creek deal with root-hungry trees and older earthenware sewer lines, a combination that blocks drains on repeat. Our drain plumbers jet the line clear, camera-check it with CCTV, and end recurring blockages with no-dig relining where the pipe has cracked, without trenching a garden that takes up half the block. Hot water without wasted space: A bulky tank is a real cost when the whole backyard is eight metres deep. We fit compact and continuous-flow hot water systems, including gas units, matched to the household and the space. The everyday and the urgent: Dripping taps, appliance connections, gas fitting, gutters and downpipes through our roof plumbers, and a genuine 24/7 emergency response for burst pipes and blocked sewers.

Naremburn questions we hear over the fence
Renovating, maintaining or just curious about an old cottage's plumbing: these are the questions Naremburn asks most.
We are adding a bathroom to our semi. What should we plan for?
The two big constraints in a Naremburn semi are the party wall and where your existing sewer line runs. New drainage needs fall toward the connection point, which limits where a bathroom can economically go. Get us in at the design stage: we will confirm the drainage path, quote the rough-in as a fixed price, and schedule fit-off around your builder so trades are not waiting on each other.
Can a dishwasher go into a kitchen that never had one?
Almost always. Cottage kitchens predate dishwashers, so we run a new water supply with its own stop tap and a proper drainage connection, rather than the shortcut splices that cause floods later. If your kitchen cupboards are being replaced anyway, tell us early and we will rough the connections into the right cavity while access is easy.
My backyard gully overflows when it rains hard. What is going on?
An overflowing gully during rain usually means the sewer line downstream is partly blocked, so stormwater entering the system has nowhere to go and backs up at the lowest opening, which is your gully. It is actually a useful early warning. Jetting clears the blockage, and a camera check shows whether tree roots from the gully reserve have damaged the pipe enough to justify relining.
Where does a hot water system go on a tiny block?
Naremburn cottages rarely have a spare corner, so we mount continuous-flow units on an external wall, tuck slimline tanks down the side path, or in some renovations build the unit into the new laundry design. The right answer depends on gas availability and how far the unit sits from the bathrooms. We measure, then give you the options that genuinely fit.
The pipes thump when the washing machine fills. Is that damaging anything?
The thump is the solenoid valve in the machine slamming shut and shocking your pipework, and over time it does loosen fittings and stress old joints. In cottages with original pipe runs we secure the loose sections and fit a hammer arrestor near the machine. It is a small, inexpensive fix that spares you a burst hose or a weeping joint later.
